If you’re not already collecting aluminum tabs, Aluminum Collection Chair Mary Borton urges you to “Start saving those tabs! We’ll again have a competition, with the top two places in the state/ provincial category and the club/individual category being recognized during Campvention.” Mary states that the Ronald McDonald House at nearby Iowa City, IA will be the recipient of our Campvention 2013 tab collection and financial donations.
If you don’t buy and use products in cans with aluminum pull tabs, Mary has additional suggestions for ways in which you can support the Ronald McDonald House. The first of these is to save your pennies and donate them. She asks that the penny collection be converted to larger denominations prior to Campvention, for ease of transport for the FCRVer and ease of accounting at the aluminum collection booth. Other ways to help would be to (2) make blankets or quilts to donate to Ronald McDonald House; or (3) donate office supplies (computer paper, pens/pencils, staples). Mary and her volunteers will happily accept any of the above donations, in addition to the aluminum tabs and financial contributions, for the Iowa City Ronald McDonald House. Other ways FCRVers may help include asking their friends, relatives or co-workers to save tabs for them to deliver to the aluminum tab collection site, and to check out the Ronald McDonald website (rmhc.org) for additional donation suggestions.
Mary cautions that not all pull tabs are aluminum. She advises that if we float a refrigerator magnet over a layer of tabs and find one or more that attach to the magnet, those are not aluminum and should not be included in the aluminum collection.
Mary is also looking for volunteers willing to staff the aluminum collection booth for a few hours throughout Campvention week.
