They have chaired Nebraska’s Eastern District Campout (Spring Fling) five different years. This is an undertaken arranging for entertainment, food, setting up FCRV programs, etc. There are times we feel that if the VanArsdall’s had not stepped up to chair this event we may not have had Spring Fling on that specific year.
They have been very instrumental in bring several couples into membership in FCRV, which later also became members of their chapter. Jan & Ward have brought in a total of six couples into our organization and continue to talk to others regarding our organization; however, as everyone knows that is a task in its self. Since joining FCRV, the VanArsdall’s have not missed any state campouts or district campouts to our knowledge as well as our fall workshops.
Jan and Ward became Field Directors in Nebraska in 2009. They have served well in this position by informing their chapter of various programs of FCRV and keeping members updated on changes that have and are being made. They continue to talk to individuals when camping about our organization and try to get them interested.
Jan and Ward have attended eight Nationals. And they don’t just attend…they volunteer to work at the Nationals as well. They have volunteered at all eight of the Nationals that they have attended! They have promoted at the Nationals in various programs, and have driven trams; selling FCRV emblems and this year are in charge of the campsite decoration contest. They have helped their chapter participate in the decoration contests at the various Nationals as well.

Jan and Ward have three children, and seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Jan was a secretary for the Lincoln School System for twenty-four years. After retiring she went to work for Cabala’s for ten years and just recently retired. Ward has worked for the public schools in Lincoln for twenty-plus years full-time and now works part-time.
